A Booster Seat to Drop the Heat
In case you didn’t know already, heat is the #1 nemesis for computers. All those fragile components crunching away on data and graphics really get the temperature rising. (Wouldn’t you be really warm after doing a few hundred million math problems?!) The heat issue is only magnified for laptops. All the extra space for ventilation is removed, fans are smaller, everything is shrunk!
To top (or bottom, as it may be) it off, the only place to get a decent size fan running on a laptop is on its underside. That way, all the hot air inside computer can be blown out… onto the table or desk a few millimeters away. Sounds useful, doesn’t it? Well, the Powerlift Laptop Stand offers a way to get some additional heat-dissipating distance for your laptop.
Even though it adds less than an extra inch of space between your laptop and its resting spot, there will be a significant improvement (whether your notice it or not) in how much heat your laptop expels. Basically, it comes down to air flow and the Powerlift greatly enhances how much more air can move around underneath your computer. Overheating should no longer be a concern while your machines chugs along on the 8 monster spreadsheets you have opened up. Jason Fields, from Idealab and snap.com, got a few Powerlifts for himself:
The Powerlift is a simple, minimal solution to overheating portables. It’s hinged in the middle, making it ultracompact when closed; when it’s open, the rubber pads on its ends provide ample clearance between your computer and the table surface. Best of all, the Powerlift is cheap, meaning that I can buy several and never worry about losing one while traveling. The company also makes other interesting products, including a wall folio, an iPod case, and a thick felt laptop sleeve that I can’t wait to get my hands on.
Those crazy Swiss are always up to something. Bounce on over to the netwer.ch website to order your own Powerlift, or even a set of them. Make sure to check out what else they have to offer for those who are looking for both form and function.
