At our office, coffee is looked upon as something that takes perfectly good water and then you run it through a bunch of gritty dirt. Ick! However, we’ll gladly consume some chai tea on occasion, and pretty much all pop tastes better than the “sludge” if you’re in need of some caffeine. At the same time, we recognize some of our readers are really into coffee and we salute you with this article for the AeroPress Coffeemaker made by venerable Aerobie.

If the product and company didn’t have such a cool name, we probably could have skipped over this one, but we’ve also heard about this little coffeemaker from other sources. The consensus is that the AeroPress is worth it’s weight in gold to a true coffee aficionado. Since it’s made out of a durable Lexan plastic alloy, that means it doesn’t actually weigh that much, but hopefully you get the point. Maybe Benjamin Tice Smith from Business 2.0 maganzine, an actual coffee drinker, can provide a better description.

I can’t stomach weak office or hotel brews, and I’m too cheap to shell out two bucks for a Starbucks jolt. The AeroPress has solved my problem. It looks like a giant syringe, but it brews a remarkably good – and strong – cup of coffee. I just dump hot water in with some of my favorite grounds and press the plunger, and less than a minute later I’m in coffee heaven. My world is a happier place now that I know I can always get my high-grade caffeine fix.

Before you grab for the next cup of joe, make sure you get yourself an AeroPress Coffeemaker so you can drink a real cup. Today’s post is such a case, with the i-mate K-JAM mobile phone/Pocket PC/web cam/Skype receiver. This multi-faceted jewel is ideal for the ultimate in multi-tasking. It’s so multi-functional it has 3 different names!

Okay, so the several different names don’t have to do with how useful the thing is. They’re all essentially the same phone rebranded by a few different companies. In any case, this is a top-notch PDA phone. Dai-Kyu Kim, CEO of Zapr gives us a good rundown of the i-mate’s twin, the HTC Wizard:

I travel frequently to Korea and Japan, and I quickly grew tired of dealing with the rental and prepaid cell phones I used for communicating while overseas. The HTC is actually a tiny computer with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, a 180-degree swivel touchscreen, a “qwerty” keyboard, 128MB of ROM, 64MB of SDRAM, and a 520-MHz processor. I now get my e-mail instantly, and the HTC Wizard quickly transmits text and video messages. This phone is an international superstar, and it’s worth every penny.

The K-JAM comes with the Windows Mobile 5.0 operating system, and is packed with all the mobile office applications needed to make working on the road fun and simple. As most PDA phones go, they certainly don’t give these things away for free, but the “you get what you pay for” motto stays true with the K-JAM. You’re going to pay a lot, and get a lot out of it. Basically, if this beefy little phone doesn’t have enough horsepower for you, you’re likely to be holding a full-blown laptop up to you head the next time you get call.

Like most people, you likely have the urge to record high-definition video onto an SD memory card. Finally, there’s a video camera that helps fill that void. The Sanyo HD1A Digital Camera is the first of its kind to provide ultra-portable recording capabilities in HD.

It takes both the battery and the SD memory card to push this little guy over 8 oz. in weight. Even the little girl down the street could hold this thing in her hand without having it feel like a burden. But obviously, it’s the 720p HD video that is the big selling point for the HD1A. Being able to watch home videos that take full advantage of your new 42″ Plasma TV are a real treat. Professional blogger Mia Kim, from Popgadget, echoes the above by telling us what she likes about the Sanyo HD1A.

The photos and videos I took on my Treo 700p were grainy, but I also found that I didn’t like the image quality on a bunch of videocams I tested – until I found Sanyo’s HD1A. This little gem not only shoots great video, but also lets me take photos. It weighs just half a pound, and it has more features than many high-end still cameras. Switching from video to still mode is a breeze, and I can record nearly 90 minutes of high-definition video on a 4GB memory card.

For those concerned about the time and space you available on memory cards, things have become much better of late. For one, the price of SD memory has seen significant decreases. Our last check found 4GB SD memory cards for under $100. And, if that still isn’t quite an acceptable price per recording minute ratio, you can always drop down to standard definition video and get up to 4 hours on that 4GB card. C’mon! How many reasons do you need to get yourself one of these sexy little HD1A camera’s?!?

Despite being in the “digital age,” there is still a whole lot of paper being passed around the office. Whether it’s not appropriate, not convenient or just plain laziness, a barrier seems to exist for a lot of companies in converting from paper to electronic documents. Hewlett-Packard came up with the 9200c Digital Sender to get rid of all those excuses.

The 9200c is all about business efficiency. It converts documents to PDFs and turns them into searchable text with OCR technology. The 50-sheet document feeder lets you queue up scanning jobs so you don’t have to stand around feeding each page by hand. Security is another feature of the Digital Sender, as it provides a secure method for sending documents as well as the ability to blank out the hard drive on the device after each transmission. Craig Garner, CEO and Chairman of Coast Plaza Hospital, and an attorney to boot, says this about the HP Digital Sender:

It looks like a fax machine, but it will scan your important paper documents and convert them into PDF files that you can archive or e-mail with the touch of a button. The world of law is still far from paperless–as are big industries like real estate, health care, and insurance–so the ability to go from paper to digital is critical. Most of my colleagues find PDFs more secure than Word documents and faxes for revising contracts, and my Digital Sender always gets them sent quickly and cleanly.

With a retail price of $3199, the 9200c Digital Sender is not likely to be seen in a lot of small businesses. But with all the features and time-saving capabilities packaged into it, a company with a lot of administrative work will definitely see the benefits it provides. Even if you’re not into all the environmental mumbo-jumbo about saving trees with electronic documents, the benefits of this machine are sure to cover the cost.

Remember that real nerdy friend in high school or college who had to show everyone his fancy calculator watch? C’mon, admit it. You were jealous! Okay, maybe not. Those things were pretty dorky. Now you can be the one to join the “arms race” to get the techiest watch on the market. Simple arithmetic has nothing on the Tissot High-T watch with MSN Direct access. Not only can you be plugged into Gates’ matrix getting the latest weather, sports, news on your wrist no matter where you are, this watch is just plain cool.

As a collector and reviewer of watches, I have accumulated a pretty extensive assortment, but the one that has emerged as my favorite is the Tissot High-T. Why? Sheer technical wizardry… Several other watches offer the same data features, but two things set the Tissot apart. The first is the vibrating alarm, which keeps you from drawing unwanted attention in movies and meetings. The second is the touch-sensitive sapphire-crystal face, which allows you to navigate by tapping the screen rather than pushing buttons. If you’ve got a big enough wrist (and budget), the High-T is a must-have.

In case you didn’t know already, heat is the #1 nemesis for computers. All those fragile components crunching away on data and graphics really get the temperature rising.
