Well-Suited On the Cheap
Warning!! This is not a post about a gadget, but we felt it worth mentioning. Either read the post or move on!
Some of us have the benefit of a casual work environment, while others have to put on several layers every morning to meet our company dress code. If you fall in the latter category, you’re most likely aware of the wide range in both quality and price of formal business attire. And of course, it all comes down to appearance; it’s an impression thing with client’s and other outsiders, while it becomes a competition between co-workers. And if it really is all about appearance, it certainly doesn’t matter if you spent a lot on that fancy new suit, just so long as it looks like you did.
So, where you do you go to get the best looking suit for the least amount of money? Hong Kong, of course! One of Hong Kong’s most well known tailors is NobleHouse. They have been in business for over 25 years, and offer “affordable elegance” to their male and female clients. Robert Blakmon, sales a manager at Veolia Water, talks about NobleHouse and mentions some other Hong Kong hotspots:
An English suit will cost $3,600 and up. A fine Hong Kong suit custom-tailored to your specs will rarely exceed $700. Noble House is probably the best known, but there are several other quality shops, mostly in the Kowloon area. Also in Kowloon is the Ascot Chang Shirtmakers shop, where handmade dress shirts run $75 to $200.
Now before you catch a weekend red-eye to Hong Kong just for some clothes shopping, NobleHouse does offer scheduled fittings throughout the U.S., U.K. and elsewhere around the globe. Basically, you need to be in the right place at the right time. If you’re really lucky, you may even get to meet NobleHouse’s Master Tailor, Vijay Wadhwan, Simply check out the visit schedule on the NobleHouse website and make an appointment. That is, if it suits you.
