Marketing Over Wi-Fi
Wi-fi in the home is fairly commonplace these days. But what about when you’re on the road? Ever been to a convention or trade show and would do anything just for a few minutes for a wireless signal for your laptop to send a raving email to your boss or co-workers about a new product or presentation you just saw? Well, how about using the Apple AirPort Express with iTunes?
Ross Mayfield, CEO at Socialtext, has this to say about the new AirPort:
… I look for an unused Ethernet jack on a wall near the meeting room, plug in my AirPort Express, and set up an open hotspot named Socialtext. Conferencegoers love this. They open their laptops and find my company—in name, at least—providing the solution to their bandwidth woes. Everyone wins.
That’s a great idea. No more tying yourself to a lengthy ethernet cable and looking all 2002. And with Ross’s little twist, you can even get some subtle marketing to promote your company! Of course, with the iTunes addition that Apple recently bolted on to the AirPort, it’s hard to pass up this little wonder-toy for home use as well. Simply plug it in and you have an instant music server accessible from anywhere in your house. Rock on!
